Stress has been confirmed harmful and contributes to depression, cardiovascular disease and HIV/AIDS. It has been found that stress is linked with the onset of depression and relapse in people who have recovered. Stress experienced in the workplace contributes to cardiovascular illnesses such as coronary heart disease. Stress also speeds the progression of HIV/AIDS.
Health experts in the US pointed out that stress hurts health in two ways. People sleep poorly under stress and are less likely to exercise. They also have poor eating habits, tend to smoke more and do not comply with medical treatment. This is the behavioural hurt resulting from stress. Biologically, stress affects our immune system.
