Researchers in the U.S. have found that barely detectable mini-strokes are attributable to high to normal levels of uric acid. The study which was published in Neurology indicated that increased levels of uric acid could cause cells in the brains to die off caused by deprivation of oxygen. Over time, the damage could disrupt our ability to think, learn and remember information.
With proper diet, exercise and drugs, high uric acid levels can be reduced which would subsequently reduce mini-strokes, according to David Schretlen, study author of the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Baltimore.
