Studies show walking is one of the best ways to shed belly fat, in less time than you think. Research studies found out that just 2 1/2 hours of brisk walking a week—about 20 minutes a day—can shrink your belly by about 1 inch in four weeks.
All walking burns belly fat, but for best results, crank up your weekly MET (metabolic equivalent) hours—the number of calories you burn, according to Tim Church, M.D., Ph.D., M.P.H., of the Pennington Biomedical Research Center at Louisiana State University.

DNA Testing
It is often said that what we see on television is more part fiction than fact. However, sometimes, the things we see happening on television can happen in real life.
Take for instance, DNA testing. In real life, there are cases where true paternity identity needs to be determined. How else can that be done if not through DNA testing and medical advancement has made that possible. Mysteries of parentage and crimes can now be solved with DNA testing.

Acne Treatment That Works
There is a misconception that acne is caused by the food we eat. It is not actually but many factors contribute to acne such our hormones, extra sebum, follicle fallout, bacteria, and inflammation.
Fortunately, there are many kinds of acne treatments available today. But first, we should try to determine the type and severity of our acne condition as it has a highly variable response to treatment. The more we know about the specific form, the more likely we are able to find a treatment that works.

Immunity Boosters
Our choice of food is important if we want to stay healthy. Not only do we want to stay healthy with the kind of food we take, we also want to boost our immunity to diseases. Msn.com lists ten immunity boosters. Below is the list. Try to increase intake of these immunity boosters.
1. Tea/Green tea
Studies show that green tea—infused with the antioxidant EGCG—reduces the risk of most types of cancer. The phytonutrients in tea also support the growth of intestinal bacteria.
"Specifically, they inhibit the growth of bad bacteria—E. coli, Clostridium, Salmonella—and leave the beneficial bacteria untouched." Why is this important? "Because up to 70 percent of your immune system is located in your digestive tract," says Susan Bowerman, assistant director of the Center for Human Nutrition at the University of California at Los Angeles. "Four cups a day will keep it functioning at its peak."
2. Chilli peppers
Chilis stimulate the metabolism, act as a natural blood thinner, and help release endorphins," says Gunnar Petersen, certified strength and conditioning specialist and a celebrity trainer. Plus, they're a great way to add flavor to food without increasing fat or calorie content. Chilis are also rich in beta-carotene, which turns into vitamin A in the blood and fights infections, as well as capsaicin, which inhibits neuropeptides (chemicals that cause inflammation). A recent study in the journal Cancer Research found that hot peppers even have anti-prostate-cancer properties. All this from half a chili pepper (or one tablespoon of chili flakes) every day.
3. Ginger
Contrary to popular belief, ginger—a piquant addition to so many Asian dishes—isn't a root, it's a stem, which means it contains living compounds that improve your health. Chief among them is gingerol, a cancer suppressor that studies have shown to be particularly effective against that of the colon. Chop ginger or grind it fresh and add it to soy-marinated fish or chicken as often as you can. The more you can handle, the better.
4. Blueberries
This potent little fruit can help prevent a range of diseases from cancer to heart disease," says Ryan Andrews, the director of research at Precision Nutrition, in Toronto, Canada. One serving (3.5 ounces) contains more antioxidants than any other fruit. Drizzle with lemon juice and mix with strawberries for a disease-fighting supersnack.
5. Cinnamon
Known for making desserts sweet and Indian food complex, cinnamon is rich in antioxidants that inhibit blood clotting and bacterial growth (including the bad-breath variety). "Studies also suggest that it may help stabilize blood sugar, reducing the risk of type 2 diabetes," says dietitian Nancy Clark, author of Nancy Clark's Sports Nutrition Guidebook (Human Kinetics, 1996). "What's more, it may help reduce bad cholesterol. Try half a teaspoon a day in yogurt or oatmeal."
6. Sweet potatoes
Often confused with yams, this tuber is one of the healthiest foods on the planet. In addition to countering the effects of secondhand smoke and preventing diabetes, sweet potatoes contain glutathione, an antioxidant that can enhance nutrient metabolism and immune-system health, as well as protect against Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, liver disease, cystic fibrosis, HIV, cancer, heart attack and stroke. "One sweet potato a day is a great alternative to the traditional variety," says Clark.
7. Tomatoes
"I think of tomatoes as the 'fighting herpes helper' for the divorcé crowd," says Petersen. Their lycopene content can also help protect against degenerative diseases. "Cooked tomatoes and tomato paste work best," he says. Shoot for half a tomato, or 12 to 20 ounces of tomato juice, a day.
8. Figs
Packed with potassium, manganese, and antioxidants, this fruit also helps support proper pH levels in the body, making it more difficult for pathogens to invade, says Petersen. Plus, the fiber in figs can lower insulin and blood-sugar levels, reducing the risk of diabetes and metabolic syndrome. Select figs with dark skins (they contain more nutrients) and eat them alone or add them to trail mix. Aim for four figs per week.
9. Mushrooms
Delicious when added to brown rice or quinoa, these mushrooms are rich in the antioxidant ergothioneine, which protects cells from abnormal growth and replication. "In short, they reduce the risk of cancer," says Bowerman, who recommends half a cup once or twice a week. "Cooking them in red wine, which contains the antioxidant resveratrol, magnifies their immunity-boosting power."
10. PomegranatesThe juice from the biblical fruit of many seeds can reduce your risk of most cancers, thanks to polyphenols called ellagitannins, which give the fruit its color. In fact, a recent study at UCLA found that pomegranate juice slows the growth of prostate cancer cells by a factor of six. "Drink a cup a day," is the advice.

Effective Diet Pills
I read with interest the latest report in the local paper that obesity has reached an all-time high of around 40% of adult population in the country. This is due to people these days leading sedentary lives and their unhealthy eating habits.
Because people are caught up with their hectic lifestyle, they have no choice but to resort to diet pills and there are a number of them in the market. The key is to be able to tell which diet pills are more superior and effective.

Always Insure Your Home
Owning a nice big house could be everyone's dream. It has to have adequate space for everyone in the family, a beautiful garden, maybe a swimming pool, a nice porch for your cars, lots of space for recreational activities for the family.
You do up the house really nicely with imported fabulous decorations, designer furniture, a state-of-the art kitchen, high-tech hi-fi, etc. Just remember to have home insurance to protect yourself and your family in the event of any eventuality. Be smart. It is better to be prepared than to be sorry.

Lighter shades for that brighter feel
Everyone knows exactly the colour scheme he or she wants for his or her home. The choice of colours is a very personal thing. The right colour enhances not only the home but it also has a bearing on the occupants mood from the ambience the colours create.
Lighter shades tend to encourage a light-hearted, uplifting mood which may in turn give the home a more appealing, restful and healthful environment that is desirable of a home.
Complementing colours in a home improve the overall ambience. No matter whether you buy furniture at regular prices or discount furniture, the availability of colours is always a relief as you are able to get the right mix of shades for that appealing effect.

Only $8 for a pair of quality eyeglasses
With escalating cost of goods and services, every little saving that you can realise is helpful. If you are someone who needs glasses, this item would be an added cost. What if you could get quality eyeglasses on the cheap? Would $8 a pair grab you? Bet you have not heard about ZenniOptical.
They have prescription glasses so cheap, so affordable that they have revolutionized the eyeglasses industry with their really affordable pricing.
For $8 a pair you would be inclined to think that the eyeglasses would be inferior in quality and style. On the contrary, ZenniOptical sells stylish prescription glasses online. They have a huge selection of modern frames and a variety of lenses such as single vision lens, sunsensor lens, tinted sunglasses lens, bifocal lens and progressive lens.
The reason why ZenniOptical is able to sell their eyeglasses at such a low price is because they sell only their own manufactured frames and they sell them directly to the customer, not having to go through the middlemen. This naturally cuts out the middlemen commission and the advertising cost.
The next time you go shopping for eyewear, bear in mind that eyeglasses need not be expensive for them to be good. Even this article in the Chicago Tribune advocates that inexpensive glasses pose no health risk to your eyes. Even a bad pair of glasses -- lenses, specifically -- won't give you an eye infection or permanently damage your eyes, although they could cause headaches until they are fixed.
There you have it. Inexpensive can mean good quality too.

World Sight Day
Of all the senses that we have, the one that is most important to me has to be sight.
Approximately 45 million people worldwide live with blindness. This is according to the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB). Of this 45 million, 80% or 36 million are over the age of 50.
Eye diseases such as cataract, glaucoma and age-related macular disorder are on the rise with the world’s ageing population growing as a result of improved life expectancy.
We just celebrated World Sight Day. This is commemorated annually on the second Thursday of October and is championed by VISION 2020, a global initiative supported by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB). Its objectives are:
·Raise public awareness of blindness & vision impairment as major international public health issues.
·Influence governments/Ministers of Health to participate in and designate funds for national blindness prevention programmes.
·Educate target audiences about blindness prevention, about VISION 2020 and its activities, and to generate support for VISION 2020 programme activities.

Popcorn is a good snack
These days, you can get all types of snacks readily available. The good old-fashioned popcorn is still a popular snack especially at cinemas and funfairs. Those popcorn machines never are idle for long.
Did you know that air-popped popcorn is naturally high in fiber, low in calories and fat, contains no sodium, and is sugar free? This can make it an attractive snack for people with dietary restrictions on the intake of calories, fat and/or sodium.

Man drops 80lbs on McDonald's diet
Fast food is usually blamed for weight gain and unhealthy diet. However, it does not have to be if you know what to eat. I read with interest of a man who lost about 80 lbs in six months be eating nearly every meal at McDonald's. The story is from The Huffington Post
QUINTON, Va. — A Virginia man lost about 80 pounds in six months by eating nearly every meal at McDonald's. Not Big Macs, french fries and chocolate shakes. Mostly salads, wraps and apple dippers without the caramel sauce.
Chris Coleson tipped the scales at 278 pounds in December. The 5-foot-8 Coleson now weighs 199 pounds and his waist size has dropped from 50 to 36.
The 42-year-old businessman from Quinton says he chose McDonald's because it's convenient.
His inspiration came from his two children and from the story of a blind war veteran who rode a tandem bicycle cross-country.
Coleson says his goal is to get back to the 185 pounds he weighed when he married Tricia Summer. Their 10th anniversary is Saturday.

Comfy Clogs
It is no fun going shopping for clothes only to end up finding nothing that suits you. It is even harder where shoes are concerned.
We all know that shoes that one person find comfortable, the next person may not feel the same. It is not easy to find a pair of shoes that gives 100% comfort though the look and colour may be appealing. I saw this online store of Dansko shoes and the shoes they have look pretty comfortable to me, especially those clog shoes. Maybe I should check them out.

Harley Davidson - a beautiful machine
There is something therapeutic about spending time outdoors among nature with trees and flowers and a gentle stream closeby. Unfortunately, not everyone has this luxury of nature close at hand.
Whatever it is, it is still nice and beneficial to be enjoying the outdoors rather than being cooped up indoors. Taking rides on a motorbike is a sure way of getting some fresh air and at the same time, going places.
I've seen some big bikes around my home in the evenings and weekends and was wondering how much one such beautiful machine would cost this part of the world and whether used Harleys are available.
